You are Brave Mama

What does it mean to be brave? It means to have courage in the midst of unpleasant, scary, new, hard, or painful situations. It means staring down a painful or frightening situation and agreeing to go full force and tackle it.

That seems rather difficult doesn't it? Have any of you ever done something brave? No need to respond because I already know the answer. YOU HAD A BABY. Despite going through 9 months of being uncomfortable, hours of extremely painful labor, sleep exhaustion, being a human milk machine, cleaning up poop all day long, temper tantrums, and having your heart walk around outside of you for the rest of your life…you still decided to tackle it head on. You mama, are brave.

Being a mom is the hardest and the most wonderful job in the world. Being a mom is sometimes unpleasant and scary. You would defend your child even if it meant risking your life. Would you not? Being a mom is always new because we never know what the day will hold.

Being a mom is hard and sometimes emotionally and physically exhausting. You go days without sleep to make sure your child is taken care of. Your heart and your mind are stretched to its limits. You love someone more than you ever thought you could.

You are always thinking, wondering, worrying if your child is healthy, comfortable, and happy. Sometimes you don’t know the answer because you can’t interpret their cry. Later, you won’t know the answer because your college student won’t return your phone calls, but you continue to love them with every ounce of your being. You dear mama, are brave.

What do you do when you are not feeling so brave? God tells us to lean on and trust in Him. He is always by our side and will never leave or forsake us. “So be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid and do not panic before them.  For the Lord your God will personally go ahead of you.  He will neither fail you nor abandon you” (Deuteronomy 31:6).

God hears our every prayer and will answer them in his own timing. God alone can give you the courage that you need to tackle life’s obstacles. You don’t need to be brave on your own mama. You just have to remain faithful to God, even under pressure, and He will give you everything you need to be brave. Will you lean on God and be brave with me?

Father God, give me the courage to be the best mom that I can be. Give me strength when I am feeling weak and grace when I slip up. Give me the wisdom that I need to teach my child about You. And thank you God, for blessing me with this child.

Do not look forward in fear to the changes of life;

Rather look to them with full hope that as they arise,

God, whose very own you are, will lead you safely

Through all things;

And when you cannot stand it, God will carry you in his arms.

Do not fear what may happen tomorrow;

The same everlasting father who cares for you today

Will take care of you today and every day.

He will either shield you from suffering or will give you

Unfailing strength to bear it.

Be at peace and put aside all anxious thoughts and Imaginations.

~St. Francis de Sales
